Investing in photovoltaic systems for companies in 2023 offers significant economic and environmental advantages, making it a viable choice for businesses. The availability of incentives and benefits, particularly through the funding associated with the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan), makes it an opportune time for companies to transition to clean energy.
The Italian government, aligned with the European Green Deal, has introduced various incentives for the green economy within the PNRR. These incentives aim to reduce hydrocarbon emissions by 55% by 2030 and promote an economy with reduced environmental impact and social improvements. Among the incentives available are tax credits, reverse charge mechanisms, the Nuova Sabatini facilitation system, and energy communities.
- The tax credit allows companies to receive a 6% tax relief on the investment made in installing a photovoltaic system, provided the maximum cost does not exceed 2 million euros. Southern Italian companies may also benefit from a tax credit (Bonus Sud) ranging from 25% to 45% in specific regions.
- The reverse charge mechanism exempts companies from immediate VAT payment when purchasing a photovoltaic system. This reduces the initial investment cost and allows for amortization over time.
- The Nuova Sabatini system facilitates access to credit for small and medium-sized enterprises, enabling the purchase of new equipment and machinery, including photovoltaic systems. The financing is divided into six tranches over a minimum period of 5 years. It allows companies to be exempt from immediate VAT payment, is currently unchanged for 2022, with the possibility of an extension into 2023.
- The FER1 Decree provides a tax break for companies installing photovoltaic systems with power between 20 kW and 1 MW. Although the decree has expired, there may be new iterations, such as a FER2 Decree.
- The option of on-site energy exchange, allowing companies to sell excess energy to the national system, is expiring at the end of 2022. In its place, new photovoltaic facilities for companies in 2023, particularly for energy communities, will provide discounted rates for energy consumption and generate additional savings.
- Furthermore, the European Union offers automatic incentives for photovoltaic and other renewable energy systems, with potential funding reaching up to 65% for small businesses and 45% for large companies. The availability of these incentives depends on the individual EU member states.
